Back Pain Hot Or Cold Compress

Back Pain Treatments - Easy Steps to Back Pain Relief

People often ask a lot about back pain treatments as a way to find a quick cure from minor to debilitating back pain. Over the counter medicine (OTC) or painkillers are most sought by individuals when trying to deal with the pain. This practice is accepted as long as long-term use of such medicine is avoided. Consult a doctor when such symptoms or pain persist, even in the presence of pain medicine. A serious problem may need to be diagnosed to prevent harmful injury in the future.

Hot and cold compress is the primary treatment for back pain. Combined with adequate amount of bed rest, applying hot and cold compress is usually enough to cure all mild to moderate symptoms of back problems. Remember that cold compress should be applied during the initial stages of inflammation or pain. This will help the muscles contract and soothe the pain by numbing the surrounding area.

Apply an ice pack not longer than a few minutes for each treatment and do this at least twice a day. After inflammation has ceased, a hot compress would be ideal to loosen the sore muscles and tissues. Never apply hot compress to an inflamed back muscle.

The application of heat will help increase circulation in the affected area, further assisting the healing process. Apply hot compress gradually at least two times a day for not more than 20 minutes each time.

A deep heating rub can also be used for back pain treatments in the absence of a hot compress. Take care not to over-massage the inflamed area until the affected part is thoroughly healed. Gently apply the heating rub and give a mild massage. This will help the medicated elements of the back rub to penetrate the skin and relax the muscles.

These are only a few of the possible back pain treatments that a person can try. It is important to test out different treatment options to find the one that works best for you. You do not have to continually suffer with back issues, you can do something about it.
